Chess

"Chess” by Lucian Sebastian Radu

acrylic on canvas

180 x 180 cm

In my latest addition to the "Collision" series, titled "Chess," I've continued to explore the themes of conflict and balance. This painting features black and white teddy bears positioned on a chessboard-like background, symbolizing the racial tensions that plague our world.

What's striking about "Chess" is the delicate equilibrium between the black and white bears, representing the opposing sides in racial wars. Amidst this tension, a red balloon floats above the scene, symbolizing the yearning for peace and stability.

Adding to the narrative, each teddy bear wears an expression of amazement, symbolizing innocence and naivety amidst the harsh realities of racial conflict.

Through this piece, I aim to emphasize the importance of finding equilibrium in our world, particularly amidst racial conflicts. It's a reminder of the need for harmony and understanding to overcome divisions and achieve peace.

In my art, I use symbolism to convey complex themes and emotions. The teddy bears in my paintings represent childhood innocence, while the balloon symbolizes peace and stability. The elongated hands depict both the absence of affection and the longing for it, with the empty gaze accentuated by the absence of eyes.

Visually, I aim for a combination of pop art's seriality, the lightness of comics, the perfection of digital print, and the expressiveness of Renaissance art.

Through my W.A.R. (We Are Right) project, I explore the falsely justified motivations behind wars and the generational traumas endured by children. It's a personal reflection on the human condition and the ongoing struggles for peace amidst conflict.
